General

Set on a large garden estate, Amantaka is housed in graceful French colonial buildings in the UNESCO protected town of Luang Prabang. Airy and elegant throughout, the décor and furnishings reflect the town’s French colonial history. Situated just south of Phousi Hill, the resort is within strolling distance of the boutiques, bakeries and restaurants lining the town’s main street. The fabled night market, the picturesque banks of the Mekong River and the former Royal Palace are also nearby.

Room Description

The Amantaka’s airy and elegant design reflects the town’s colonial history, as well as the Aman Resorts signature style. There are 24 suites, in a bewildering array of styles, but suffice to say they are all as beautiful as each other. Entered via louvred doors from the main courtyard, each suite has a king sized bed, a desk, table and chairs, chaise longue and cabinet containing the mini bar. The living and bedroom areas open out onto an outdoor area shaded by mango trees, with sunlounges and umbrellas. The 16 pool suites have their own private swimming pools, and some have separate lounge areas. The Amantaka Pool Suite has spacious outdoor areas including a garden, large verandas and a private relaxation sala, and for the last word in luxury, the Aman Villa has three to four bedrooms, spacious living areas, a private pool, garden and dedicated staff.

Activities

The Amantaka has a large swimming pool surrounded by sunloungers and umbrellas, and a private tennis court just a short distance away from the resort. The Fitness Facility overlooks the main pool and has a gym and yoga studio, where you can have private classes on request. The spa has four treatment rooms, where you can indulge in glorious treatments including holistic massages, and healing therapies, all using the Aman unique chemical-free products. If you can tear yourself away from the resort, there are all kinds of wonderful tours and excursions, from the Kuang Si Waterfall and bear sanctuary – where you can meet and even help to feed the endangered Asiatic Black Bear. Take a trip on the Upper Kha river and swim in the Tad Sae Waterfalls, take an elephant ride with a mahout guide. Amantaka offers authentic Lao and French-influenced cuisine in several dining venues. The Dining Room has an airy colonial atmosphere, and the Lounge Bar is the place for a relaxing aperitif or digestif and a cigar. The breezy Pool Terrace offers casual dining for lunch or dinner and private dining can be arranged in intimate locations around the resort, as well as in your suite.
