General

Shaded by casuarina trees and spanning a 2.5km white sandy beach overlooking the Andaman Sea, this luxurious 5-star boutique resort is sure to please, whether you’re seeking romance or relaxation – or a bit of both. It is located on the northern tip of Langkawi, in an archipelago of over 100 islands, 30km from the coast of Malaysia. Langkawi International Airport is a 30-minute drive away, as is Langkawi’s capital, Kuah (a shuttle service is available for a fee).

Spa

The resort has a wonderful, airy spa, the RivaJhu, offering specially designed treatments based on millennia-old traditions. It consists of 12 separate villas, styled as a ‘wellness village’, four of which can accommodate couples. Each villa is bathed in aromatherapy herbs and spices and has its own private pool, steam room, sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi. Here you can enjoy a range of treatments from ancient Thai massage to reflexology, a body wrap, manicure, pedicure or facial. There’s also a gym and an open-air yoga area.

Room Description

Guests have their pick of 136 spacious rooms, of five different types, all done out in Thai fabrics and with large windows – enjoying views of the pool, sea or garden. Each has a balcony, timber floors, LCD TV, DVD and CD players, coffee machine, and a bathroom with an oversized bath and a separate shower. All have separate lounge areas and wonderfully evocative names such as Damai, Cahaya and Bayu Senja. Largest of all are the Anjung rooms, which have two balconies and their own Jacuzzis.

Activities

The resort practises a green policy, and this follows through to the many activities on offer. As well as the resort’s pools, there’s Above Saffron, a space in which to have a game of pool, darts or foosball, and a range of environmentally friendly watersports available, such as sea kayaking, hydrobiking and windsurfing. You can also arrange to have windsurfing and sailing lessons, or bat a ball about the resort’s tennis courts. Further afield, Langkawi is famous for its limestone caves, and excursions are available if you fancy a closer look, or you can sign up for one of the island’s nature walks – or just sit back and enjoy a romantic dinner on a sunset cruise.

Dining

Guests have a number of dining options. There’s elegant east-meets-west fine dining at The Rhu, or a choice of alfresco options at Sands beachfront restaurant. To enjoy the wonderful sunsets, you can head for Saffron, which offers great views and Mediterranean cuisine. You needn’t budge from the pool, though, as the Tanjung Rhu has its own pool bar, serving drinks, snacks and pizzas. And bookworms are not forgotten, as tea and cakes are served in the cool surrounding of the resort’s own reading room. By special arrangement, you can organise to have a special barbeque dinner on the beach, or a private meal served on your own balcony.
