Set on the shores of tranquil Lake Rotoiti, just three hours south of Auckland, with spectacular views over to the sacred island of Mokoia, On The Point is in the Maori heartland of Rotorua in the Rim of Fire region of New Zealand’s North Island. Just five minutes from the heart of Rotorua city, yet a million miles from the hustle and bustle of every day life, On The Point offers a secluded and peaceful retreat surrounded by beautiful lakeside scenery.

Room Description

A former family home built in the 1930s, On The Point is one of the finest lodges in Rotorua, retaining its original design and charm. Accommodation comes in the form of Lodge and Main Suites, Lake Cottage Suites, Lake Villas and Lake Villa Apartments. All are elegantly and comfortably decorated in traditional style with classic furniture and neutral palette of cream, white and natural tones. Mod cons include underfloor heating, air conditioning, DVD & CD player, TV, internet access, and bathrooms with spa bath. All the room have comfortable lounge ares and views either of the lake or city or both. Lake Cottage Suites ares set a short walk from the main lodge, and each one has its own lounge, separate bedroom, and a open-air hot tub overlooking the lake.

Activities

The lodge itself offers tennis courts, fishing on its private beach, boating on the lake, or simply relaxing in the entertainment room which has a full size billiards table. You can take a stroll in the grounds and meet the farm animals, learn about the history and geomorphology of the area on a guided tour with one of the lodge’s staff, or take off from the jetty for an adventure in a floatplane. Or you can have a work out in the gym, followed by a relaxing massage. The lodge has a list of recommended things to do in this fascinating area, from nature walks in the Whakarewarewa Forest, a game of golf at the Arikikapakapa golf club, and horse riding, to helicopter tours and kayaking around Lake Rotoiti all the way to the Manapirua Hot Pools. Its stunning location also makes it a perfect venue for weddings of up to 70 people, as well as for conferences.

Dining

At On The Point everything is made from scratch, and breakfast and dinner is available to all guests every day, in the elegant wood-panlled dining room, while lunch is by prior arrangement. In conjunction with Charles Royal, New Zealand’s Maori chef, the chef Craig Martin has developed an award-winning menu that offers the best of local produce, including native herbs and plants. You can also reserve a private dining room, or eat in your own suite, or on the terrace overlooking the lake on a warm evening.
