Lakeside Solitaire Lodge is located on a wooded peninsular in Rotorua on New Zealand’s North Island. The views of Lake Tarawera are spectacular and the accommodation is luxurious and welcoming. Rotorua is a centre of geothermal activity, with geysers, mud pools and steam vents all around the area. It’s also a main residential centre for the Maori people, offering lots of opportunities to discover their culture and traditions.

Room Description

All of the suites at Solitaire Lodge have lake views from the huge picture windows and private balconies. The larger suites are set over two levels, with separate living rooms, and the Solitaire suite has two bedrooms. The décor is crisp and contemporary throughout, and you get free wifi, comfy king-size beds and flat-screen LCD TVs.

Activities

The lake provides plenty to keep you occupied, from hiking trails around the shore, family-safe beaches, wild swimming, and the kayaks and dinghies you can hire from Solitaire Lodge’s own jetty. Guided tours include a visit to a traditional Maori village, a hike to the summit of Mount Tarawera, or a helicopter trip to the active marine volcano at Whakaari Island. And as this is New Zealand, there are adrenaline adventures galore, such as jet boating and bungy jumping.

Dining

You can dine in Solitaire Lodge’s inviting dining room or in your own suite. The chefs are known for their five-course feasts of premium-quality New Zealand lamb and beef – served alongside produce from the lodge’s own kitchen garden, including indigenous ingredients such as Maori potatoes and edible plants like piko piko.
